We are proud to be associated with each of our producers. At Three by One we have a strong ethical focus and all of our producers are small scale family businesses with sustainable and transparent supply chains.

 

COCONUT OIL & COCONUT MILK

Sumudhu is the third generation coconut miller who makes our coconut oil and award winning milk. Over the years, his family has fine-tuned the process of extracting the highest quality oil and milk, and they now have a modern facility which is at the heart of their community.

Sumudhu’s father and grandfather were the village heads and from the 1900s brought the people of their village together as a community. Sumudhu carries on this work. As well as running the mill as a profitable business, he also runs a not-for-profit brick and metalworks which provides an additional source of income and building materials for the locals.

The mill plays a vital role in the welfare and wellbeing of its village community. The children of the workers receive free access to school books and stationery and the mill also grows its own organic vegetables, from which they provide a healthy lunch buffet for the complete workforce.

COCONUT CHIPS & COCONUT BUTTERS

Our family based desiccated coconut company was founded in 1954 and is surrounded by smallholder coconut farmers who supply the finest freshly harvested coconuts.

Three generations later and this mill specialises not only in desiccated coconut & coconut chips, they also produce our creamed and toasted coconut butters.

Today they employ around 230 people from the local community and play a vital role in the village community.

The mill garden is stocked with many medicinal herbs and trees and the workforce live holistically, consuming traditional foods and following Ayurvedic ways of healing. Living sustainably.

COCONUT NECTAR, SUGAR, JAM & CACAO SPREAD

Coconut nectar and sugar, made from the sap of the tree, sustains the traditional livelihoods of Wijesinghe and his community. They have harvested sap for as many generations as they can remember!

Sap is responsibly harvested every 12 hours from the coconut blossoms before being bottled or dried into sugar.

In addition to the nectar and the sugar, they also use desiccated coconut from the producer of our chips to make coconut jam and coconut cacao spread. The cacao in our spread is raw and grown in the wild, not commercially farmed.

COCONUT AMINOS & COCONUT CIDER VINEGAR

Our coconut aminos and coconut cider vinegar are produced by the Fonseka family who have 5 generations of coconut vinegar experience!

In 1896 Mr Charles David de Fonseka inherited a liquor business that used coconut sap to produce alcohol. But he was a devout Buddhist, so started to produce coconut cider vinegar instead!

During World War 1 the facility was a vital source of vinegar to soldiers, who used it as a stamina drink and as an anti-bacterial wound healer. Charles was awarded a certificate of appreciation for his contribution to the British Empire.

Today Dilanga is fine-tuning his family’s age old knowledge.

The facility has a vibrant local workforce who all actively promote sustainable and zero waste production.

The aminos and vinegar are aged for 8 to 12 months and are stored in the original oak barrels, until they are ready to be bottled.

CINNAMON & TURMERIC

You see spice gardens dotted around everywhere in Sri Lanka.

We work with small family spice gardens who use heirloom seeds and traditional, regenerative agricultural practices. These community farmers have planted and harvested spices since the 1500s.

COCONUT COIR SPONGE/SOAP SAVER

Our sponges are produced by TODDS Enterprises, a part of Eco Lanka.

Based in the Western Province of Sri Lanka, they have been producing coir based products for over 35 years.

Coconut farmers and food producers provide the workshop with fresh coconut husks on a daily basis. The husks are sorted, washed and dried, before being pressed and rolled into sheets. The sheets are then sprayed with natural rubber and then hand cut into the individual sponges.

The workshop employs over 30 people from the area and provides income to the villagers. There is a good representation of male and female employees. This local community-based enterprise supports small time Sri Lankan coconut farmers through the sale of their eco-friendly products.

 SOAP & SHAMPOO BARS

Our soap and shampoo bars are made in Amsterdam by Primal Essence.

Marisa is Portugese and was taught to make soaps by her grandmother. She hand crafts in small batches, using our signature coconut oil, activated charcoal from our coconut shells and other sustainably sourced plant based ingredients.

The soaps are made with a cold process and left to cure for 4 to 6 weeks.

NATURAL DYED TEXTILE PRODUCTS

We make our textile products in collaboration with AMMA Natural Textiles.

AMMA is a social enterprise providing employment and training primarily to young mothers living on Sri Lanka's tea estates.

All of the products are made in their rural workshop, using handwoven cotton and 100% plant dyes. They source food waste such as avocado stones and pomegranate skins from hotels and restaurants, forage for fallen leaves and source medicinal plants to produce the dyes. 

Small batch, hand production means every piece is one of a kind.

BEEBEE WRAPS

The beeswax wraps are made by our friends Team BeeBee in our hometown of Cambridge.

Kath began making wraps at her kitchen table in 2017 and things grew from there!

They are made using just 4 ingredients: GOTS certified cotton, responsibly collected British beeswax, organic jojoba oil and responsibly harvested resin from European pine trees. The raw materials of every wrap are fully traceable.

The company has a strong environmental and social policy and operate in a completely transparent way.
