OUR STORY

Three By One® is a lifestyle brand built around the principles of ethical production and transparent supply chains. Based in Cambridgeshire, UK, it is solely owned by me, Laura.

The birth of the brand was more or less an accident!

While travelling for my job as a denim design and product developer I came across a family owned company with a proud heritage of being one of the pioneer coconut oil manufacturers in Sri Lanka. The family had been coconut oil millers since 1913, when they established a state of the art (at that time) coconut oil factory. During the 1983 terrorist riots however, they lost everything and the family ended up scattered around the world.

In 2013, noticing the emerging trend for coconut oil, Bumika, the great-grand daughter of the original founder, decided to revive her family business. Bumika and her family run their business with the same simple principles they live their lives; “A balanced life. Live and let live. And do your best to leave everything a little better than how you found it.”

In 2015. I was working for a big denim brand and was working closely with Bumika’s brother in law.  A non work conversation, about an idea I had that ended up never happening, led me to hear a little bit about the family story which immediately sparked my interest. Before I knew it I was drawn in and had jars of coconut oil on a boat, on the way to Belgium!

Organic Virgin Coconut Oil was the very first product and remained the only product until late 2018 when I decided to start utilising the by-product and the waste from the oil production to create new products.

I’m constantly working on new product ideas and development. New ways to reduce and eliminate waste from the supply chain. New innovations in a natural and sustainable way.

Any new products I introduce will be produced with transparency and with people and the planet at the core.

WHY CHOOSE US

Our coconut products and spices stand out in the market as they are:

We support small scale family businesses

Our producers are small scale, family businesses, many with generations of experience. The years of skills, traditions and the culture that each business we work with has, ensures every product is the best quality it can be.

We are passionate about organic and regenerative agriculture, sustainable production and building collective relationships. That is why we only source from family owned farms and coconut/spice millers in the rural villages of the coconut triangle in Sri Lanka.

We have a strong ethical focus

We are proud to be associated with our plantations in Sri Lanka. They pay union negotiated wages, take part in health care, welfare and community services for the area. They provide books for the plantation schools and in general look after all the needs of the families that live and work on the estates.

Funds from NGO organisations get channelled through to fund new buildings and infrastructure for the members of these close knit communities.
